About Scar Formations (2026, Siri Hermansen, 41 min.)
Geopolitical instability and the changing security situation in Europe have reactivated the militarized landscapes along the border between Norway and Russia. At the same time, personal and collective memories of the Second World War and the Cold War have acquired renewed political significance.
Scar Formations investigates how historical events continue to shape contemporary society, and how memories of war, resistance, liberation and political betrayal are preserved, contested and reinterpreted across generations.
The project takes its point of departure in Eastern Finnmark, a region where the consequences of the Second World War and the Cold War remain deeply embedded in both the landscape and collective memory.
