Harstad is a town of 25,000 inhabitants, beautifully situated between fjord and mountains, and covered by a sky with the magical Northern Lights on clear nights in winter, and the midnight sun in summer. (Map)

Harstad has exciting shops, high-quality restaurants and cozy cafes. There is also a cultural center, cinema, museum and galleries. People come from all over the region to use the local 'Grottebadet'; three swimming pools with different temperatures, jacuzzi, steam room and saunas.

How to Get to Harstad

Harstad is located in Sør-Troms county, and there are various ways to travel to Harstad.

By Plane:
The closest airport is Harstad/Narvik Evenes (EVE), and is a 50 minute drive from the town centre. There are frequent airport busses that corresponds with arrivals and departures of the flights. There are hardly any direct flights from abroad to this airport, so you will need to change in Oslo (Gardemoen). The airlines Norwegian and Scandinavian Airlines fly between Oslo and Harstad. By Boat:
You can travel to Harstad with the daily passenger ship along Norway's beautiful western and northern coast, between Bergen and Kirkenes, called 'Hurtigruten'. It's a 12 day round trip, but you can hop off at Harstad on the way up north and catch any of the returning daily departures. You can also fly to Tromsø (Tromsø Lufthavn, Langnes) and take the very practical 3 hour speedboat journey to Harstad city centre. Click here to see the boat timetable.

By Bus:
There are good bus connections between Harstad and other locations in the region, such as Narvik and Sortland. If you wish to take a bus from Narvik, you can take the flybus to Evenes and transfer there to reach Harstad. There is a direct bus service between Sortland and Harstad.
